‘Politicians, don’t destroy Ghana’

Bernard Amankwah

  By Forgive Adjoa Forfoe
Gospel musician, Bernard Amankwah, has admonished politicians to consider the fate of orphans and other vulnerable people should war break out in the country through their actions when they are campaigning, so as to avoid any war during this year’s election.

The I Am Redeemed singer, who was speaking after donating some items to the Osu Chilren’s Home in Accra some weeks ago, said “I want to plead with our politicians that in this election year, when they go out campaigning, they should consider these young ones and always speak words that bring comfort, words that will prosper everyone and foster unity and make Ghana what we all want it to be.”

He continued that “although the the politician can afford to escape with his family abroad should anything happen, these young ones here have nowhere to go. So please, politicians, if you do not have anything to give the nation, don’t destroy it for us.’’

Bernard Amankwah said although the politicians are few, Ghanaians are normally on edge whenever we enter an election year because of the utterances of these few individuals called politicians adding “they are always holding this nation to ransom because their utterances leave us uncertain about the stability of our nation after every election. Young politicians of today mount political platforms and say unsavoury things in unacceptable language, unlike those days when it was a delight to go for political gatherings and hear from the Dan Selbys, the Victor Gbehos and the Harry Sawyerrs who made you know that Ghana had a future,” he stated.

He also lashed out at leaders in society for turning a blind eye to happenings around them, therebyallowing the politicians to take the country for a ride over the years. ‘’ I blame those of us who think we are enlightened in society because we keep quiet and allow these few individuals to hold this country to ransom such that the moment they speak, everyone must take cover. Meanwhile, people have made investments in the country and we should not allow all that to go to waste just because of a few individuals who have certain ambitions for power,’’ he concluded.
