AS the saying goes, All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and for Sunny FM, playing time is giving their listeners free breakfast.Dubbed “Sunny FM Free Breakfast”, listeners were treated to a variety of food and beverages ranging from local to international dishes for breakfast free of charge on Friday October 30. They were also given free counseling for their various business ventures and introduced to a variety of new and healthy products on the market
In its second year, the event witnessed a huge turnout beyond the expected numbers that in order to taste everything on display, listeners were already cued as early as 7am in the premises of the radio station’s Kanda premises to be served their breakfast. More people were still trooping in for the event as at the 10am stipulated time of closing.
With just a coupon, a listener was treated to breakfast ranging from cereals, pastries, beverages, fruit juice, noodles, fried foods to Waakye. The alternatives to these were porridges, savouries and salad or yoghurt.
The business community was not left out as they came in their numbers not only to sponsor but were also there to eat and to display their wares. Nestle’ Ghana,CCML,Trafix Catering Service,JM Addo and Sons,Indomie,ECOSPA Mineral Water and Aquatork Natural Mineral Water were some of the sponsoring companies present.
Some of the presenters at Sunny FM spoke to Graphic Showbiz. Mrs Jennifer Jessica Danquah-Adjei(JJD) explained the rationale behind the event. “We read so many messages from our listeners. Some of them tell us how much we inspire them with our programmes. So we just thought, is there any way we could meet these people and say Thank you for listening?
“Our listeners are blessing us and we are blessing them in turn with events like this. We want to create that special bond with them because they are very loyal. So basically we organize this programme to create a physical interaction with our listeners and with our clients to also showcase their products’’
Ben Kwapong-Akuffo (Okyeame) stated that it was a time to fraternize with their listeners while they eat for free. A listener,Gloria, also told Showbiz that just as they promised, Sunny FM had really fed their listeners because there was so much food for the listeners to eat or take home.
Some of the Sponsors, like Pastor Mercy Asiedu, representative of Petite Nectar in Ghana stated that they had come to support the programme because they saw Sunny FM as a big platform to advertise their products because of their loyal listeners who could turn out to be loyal customers. “We came here to support because we think it’s an amazing idea Sunny FM is putting in practice here. It’s a big advantage to us being here because of the kind of customers they have’’
