As the name indicates, W’ahamba Nathi, a South African Zulu
word, is about how people can achieve nothing without the assistance of God.
On Mighty God, Ayeyi
Wura, Yehowa and Wo Ye Ohene ampa, she praises God for all His blessings and
the belief that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ brings salvation to the world.
The birth of Christ on Christmas and the divine power to the
Christian is what Obaasima Mercy talks
about on Christmas time.
On Nyame Sunsum and
Tie Mesunfre, the singer pleads for the spirit of God to hear her cry and
assist her to live a righteous life.
In an interview with Showbiz, Obaasima Mercy also known as
Obaasima Mercy Hammond, a business woman who has been singing for the past 12
years said, “I have realised Ghanaians love South African music and their style
as well. However, I have also observed that no artiste in Ghana is bringing music
lovers in Ghana that South African style, so I am filling the gap.
According to her, the gospel music fraternity is growing due
to its diversity.
“We have gospel
reggae, hip hop and other beats to capture music lovers. However, I think the
recycling of old songs is too much. Let’s be original in our songs, like the
secular musicians are. Even if we use
old songs, let’s add our part to promote originality and make it different from
the old version,” she stated.
The launch was graced by NPP Presidential candidate Nana
Akuffo Addo and other gospel artistes such as Nana Safo, Ruth Akutek among others.
