Award winning actress, Gloria Safo, has called on her colleagues in the acting field to make the health of their viewers their priority and support them in any way they can.
“I believe that we the actors and actresses should not wait to get so much money before we reach back to society. A lot of serious things are going on in places like this where mothers and children cannot pay their medical bills. These are the final consumers of our movies. If they are not healthy, they cannot patronise our movies. So, I believe their health status should be of utmost concern to us so that once a while, with something small, at least, we can come and support them’’

She was speaking to Graphic Showbiz after her managers,Edybentil Entertainment, who also double as the organisers of the first edition of the Kids’ Choice Awards Ghana, donated some money to the Korle Bu Maternity Ward and Nicu Child Health Centre.
Just as they promised, Edybentil Entertainment made a cheque donation of an amount of one thousand Ghana Cedis as proceeds from the August show to the facility in line with the theme for the August celebration, “The Voice of the Child in reducing Maternal Mortality’’ as 2015 is the deadline of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of which reducing maternal mortality is a key goal.
The beneficiaries of the donation,two mothers and a boy, included five year old Danso Oti Mensah from the Oncology Ward who received six hundred Ghana Cedis to undergo surgery for cancer of the eye, Gertrude Armah from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit two hundred Ghana cedis and Juliana Aduffo for Placenta abruption received two hundred Ghana cedis.
CEO of Edybentil Entertainment and Gloria’s manager, Edward Bentil, told Showbiz “We realised from organising the Kids’ Choice Awards that, though the kids were our focus,there can’t be kids without mothers. So,we decided to to do something to help reduce maternal mortality. As the Kids’ Choice Awards has come to stay, we hope to continue supporting and making donations like this’’
Ghana Kids Choice Awards,organised in August 15 this year, attracted both children and parents nationwide to award and spend time with their dream celebrities at the event venue. Many stars and role models were also present to appreciate and show love to the children.On the event stage, the winners were announced amid thrilling performances and surprise appearances by various stars and role models. Added to the excitement was the historic ‘Rainbow carpet interview, photo opportunities and autographs for children with their role models.
